One day years ago widgets used to be an essential feature that set Android apart from its competition but the competition have since gotten wise and have added widgets as well. That said, a lot of people still use widgets and they can be an important part of any phone home screen set up. One of the best weather apps period. 1Weather provides a number of great weather and clock widget options which also link to a fairly competent and well-designed application. It’s an overall great option for those who want a simple weather/clock combo.
Battery Widget Reborn was but a beta at this point last year and it has blossomed into one of the must have widgets if you need a battery widget. It’s customizable in a number of ways that allows for a bunch of shapes and colors. This means it’ll go well with almost any theme and it’s not overly expensive at $1.99 for the pro version.

Beautiful Widgets has been around for a long time. It came about and received popularity when people were looking for a substitute for the famous HTC Sense camera widget and has remained popular ever since. The price has gradually declined over the years but it’s still an amazing option for those who need widgets.

Clock now is a minimal-style clock widget that resembles Google Now cards. It’s in the style of the old Google Now cards but nevertheless there are those who enjoy that kind of theming. It comes in dark and light colors and has a few widget styles.
It’s not as complex as some of these others but sometimes you don’t need complex. It’s also free which is a huge plus.

Functionally the same as the Cyanogenmod cLock widget and brought to you by some of the same developers, this independently released, standalone widget takes back its original name, Chronus and brings the same elegant look and feel to the broader Android community.
As widget "Information" flexible, Chronus highly optimized in terms of CPU and use of data with the potential of replacing some of the widgets more info. You can choose to use any or all of the features, features that are not used completely disabled, and does not use CPU, data or batteries.
A good calendar widget can be hard to come by thanks to the sheer amount of information they need to display. DigiCal+ Calendar & Widgets seems to have this task under control with their calendar widgets. It rates a 4.5 rating in the Google Play Store. Even though the widgets aren’t all that customizable, they do come in neutral colors so it should fit with most themes. The calendar app itself is fairly solid too.
Last and certainly not least is Zooper Widget. Much like UCCW, Zooper Widget allows you to create your own custom widgets. Unlike UCCW, Zooper is a bit more polished of an effort and you can create some truly amazing stuff with this app. Our own Jonathan Feist has a whole series dedicated to making awesome Zooper widgets.
